The Sierra de Espadán Natural Park has organised a day dedicated to cork oak forests and cork. Below, we share all the relevant information:
The Sierra de Espadán is known for its lush cork oak forests; and the harvesting of their bark, ‘cork’, has been an integral part of this region for centuries.
The harvesting and processing of cork form part of the cultural heritage of the park’s inhabitants, as a whole range of trades and activities centred on this resource – which is compatible with the conservation of the cork oak forests – have developed here.
Today, there are still four factories dedicated to the processing of cork.
