Sierra Calderona Natural Park

Sierra Calderona was declared a Natural Park in January 2002, and since then it has been one of the most popular Protected Spaces in the Valencian Community. Located between the provinces of Castellón and Valencia, its surface area is mainly at altitudes of no more than 1,000 metres, with the exception of Montemayor in the extreme northwest, where it reaches a height of 1,015 metres above sea level. Other important heights are Gorgo (907 metres), Pico del Águila (878 metres), Rebalsadors (802 metres), Oronet (742 metres) and Garbí (600 metres).

In addition to being a Natural Park, the Sierra Calderona has been declared a Site of Community Importance and a Special Protection Area for Birds, it has seven micro-reserves of unique flora and the sector that is home to the southernmost cork oaks in the Valencian Community has been classified as a Special Protection Area.

The geological diversity, the abundance of faults, tectonic structures and the layout of ravines, hills and valleys make the Sierra Calderona a landscape of great contrasts, inexhaustible and surprising, which, together with its heritage values, make it a treasure to be admired and preserved in equal measure.
