Sierra Espadán Natural Park

Sierra Espadán was declared a Natural Park in 1998 and is the second largest protected area in the Valencian Community, occupying a total of 31,180 hectares. Located in the province of Castellón, its landscape is abrupt and rugged in its highest parts: Pico Espadán (1,099 metres), Pico Pinar (1,101 metres) and Pico Rápita (1,106 metres).

In addition to being a Natural Park, the Sierra Espadán has been declared a Site of Community Importance and a Special Protection Area for Birds.

This Park is home to one of the largest forests in the Valencian Community, with its cork oaks or ‘sureres’ being the most characteristic of its landscape. The diversity of fauna and flora of the ecosystem that makes up the Sierra Espadán, together with the cultural and historical heritage to be found throughout its geography, make this Natural Park a treasure to be admired and preserved in equal parts.
