The Cid´s Way follows a tourist and cultural itinerary following in the footsteps of El Cid Campeador. On this route, Navajas is one of the many villages that the route crosses on the last stretch of the journey towards Valencia.
This route, known as ‘The Conquest of Valencia’, is almost 250 km long and its starting point is Cella, the place chosen by the Cid according to the Cantar to gather his troops and begin the conquest of Valencia. From here, the route follows in his footsteps through numerous towns in the provinces of Teruel, Castellón and Valencia.
Navajas is located between two municipalities that are directly mentioned in the poem of Mio Cid: Jérica and Segorbe. The road arrives here following the route of the Ojos Negros Green Way and that is why many hikers and cyclists take advantage of the proximity of the Way to our town to travel to the town centre to visit the Salto de la Novia or the Elm Square.
For hikers, the route is signposted all along its route with red and white stripes, which identify it as a long-distance footpath (GR) approved by the regional mountain and hiking federations: The Cid´s Way is classified as GR 160.
In addition, there is an indispensable element for all those who walk the Camino del Cid: The safe-conduct. This is a personalised ‘passport’ that you can stamp in many places along the Way, as well as obtaining discounts of at least 10% in more than 200 accommodations and benefiting from promotional offers. It is free and can be requested at any of the more than 70 tourist offices along the route or at the Cid´s Way Consortium.
