Just 3 km. from Navajas we find the neighbouring village of Altura, the second most populated village in the Alto Palancia region, which also has a vast municipal area located mostly in the Sierra Calderona Natural Park and surrounding areas, which provides this village with a rich natural heritage. Thus, among its main natural resources we can highlight the Municipal Natural Site of La Torrecilla – Portal de Navarrete*, the landmark of El Cantal, the Bat Cave or the `Pozos de La Mena´.
In the town centre we can enjoy its quiet historic centre while discovering its monuments, squares and churches, as well as visiting the museum collection of the Valldecrist Charterhouse.
The visit to Altura is completed by a series of resources that are just a few minutes away from the centre of the town and that should not be overlooked. The most outstanding are, on the one hand (about 2 km away) the Valldecrist Charterhouse, founded at the end of the 14th century at the wish of the Infante Martín and which became an important centre of power until its definitive exclaustration in 1835; and, on the other hand, (about 12 km away) the Sanctuary of the Holy Cave, a pilgrimage centre in which the large cavity where the chapel of the Virgin, built in 1645, is located, stands out.
As far as the fiestas in Altura are concerned, the Berro Festivities are held in March and the Local Festivities are held in September.
*Municipal Natural Site of La Torrecilla – Portal de Navarrete: The Municipal Natural Site ‘La Torrecilla-Puntal de Navarrete’ was declared as such in 2006. It is located at the confluence of the municipalities of Jérica and Alcublas and has a surface area of 331.30 ha. The site has a high ecological value, with a predominance of mixed masses of laricio pine, juniper and kermes oak, with a shrub layer of junipers and junipers.
